WHO declares Zika virus a PHEIC
WHO declared the clusters of microcephaly and neurological disorders associated with Zika virus circulation in the Americas a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The declaration was driven by the temporal-spatial association with Zika rather than direct confirmation of causation; the causal link to congenital Zika syndrome was confirmed later in 2016.
