What each source provides
- WHO Disease Outbreak News — the World Health Organization's formal outbreak bulletins. Authoritative; typically published every 3–7 days during an active event. The dashboard's case-count headline figures come from here.
- WHO Bluesky (@who.int) — WHO's social channel. Carries shorter case-count updates between formal DON publications. Same authority as the DON, fresher cadence.
- U.S. CDC National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS): the weekly national tables of reportable diseases. Supplies the year-to-date U.S. hantavirus case count behind the regional view.
- Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) — Canada's Rapid Risk Assessments. Particularly relevant for outbreaks that touch Canadian travelers or cargo, such as the MV Hondius cruise-ship cluster confirmed via PHAC.
- Press coverage — outbreak-relevant reporting from BBC News, NPR, CBC News, ABC News, and CBS News, filtered to articles that explicitly cover a pathogen we track. Useful for context the official feeds don't carry yet (state-level confirmations, voyage updates, on-the-ground reporting).
- ReliefWeb (OCHA) — the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs's situation-report service. Republishes daily on-the-ground sitreps during fast-moving events, closing the gap between WHO's roughly weekly formal bulletins. Surfaces here as press-style coverage; WHO Disease Outbreak News stays the authoritative source for headline case counts.
