  Ebola

  Ebola virus disease confirmed in Guinea

  WHO formally confirmed laboratory diagnosis of Zaire ebolavirus in samples from Guinea, marking the beginning of the 2014–2016 West Africa Ebola epidemic. It became the largest Ebola outbreak in history with 28,616 cases and 11,310 deaths across Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, and triggered the third-ever PHEIC declaration on 8 August 2014.
