WHO declares mpox (monkeypox) a PHEIC
WHO declared the multi-country outbreak of mpox (monkeypox) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The outbreak had spread to over 75 countries and territories, with most cases in men who have sex with men — an epidemiological pattern previously not documented for mpox, which had been considered endemic to Central and West Africa.
