Sudan ebolavirus outbreak declared in Gulu, Uganda
WHO confirmed Sudan ebolavirus as the cause of a rising case cluster around Lacor and Gulu Hospitals in northern Uganda. The outbreak ultimately produced 425 cases and 224 deaths (53% CFR), and was the first large-scale deployment of the WHO Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network. The ring-infection-control approach developed at Lacor Hospital became the template for subsequent Ebola response.
