20 March 2001 Disease Outbreak Reported As of 15 March 2001, WHO has reported a total of 436 suspected cases, including 11 deaths in Nyanje area, Petauke District, Eastern Province. Laboratory investigations confirm Yersinia pestis . The existence of bubonic plague in humans was preceded by a fall in the rodent population in the area.
