A new outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever has been reported in Gabon, according to the World Health Organization's Disease Outbreak News. The first reported case occurred on an unspecified date, but the recent cases are linked to an earlier outbreak in the village of Djidji in the Booué area, which was affected in October.
As of the latest report, there are no confirmed cases, but the situation is being closely monitored. The World Health Organization has reported that there are no probable or suspected cases. However, there have been seven reported deaths, which occurred unreported until the last death on 16 December. The case fatality ratio is not available due to the lack of confirmed cases.
The outbreak is currently limited to Gabon, with no reported cases in other countries. There is no information available on any vessel or aircraft outbreaks.
The public health response to the outbreak is being led by the Gabonese authorities, with support from international partners. The World Health Organization is providing guidance and assistance to the response efforts.
